9M teu capacity deepwater port of Hastings to be built

Mon Jun 09 07:28:43 CEST 2014 arnekiel

Australia is set to have a new 9M teu capacity deepwater port capable of berthing the latest generation of megaships at Hastings, Victoria. The state government said last week the port would come under the Major Transport Projects Facilitation Act. About $102M was set aside in the last budget for preliminary studies, which could take up to two years. Hastings will ensure Victoria remains Australia's freight and logistics capital, added the Victorian Government. "The advantage of Hastings is it's already a deepwater port, with a minimum 16m [draught] the whole way," government spokesperson Steve Mann told IHS Maritime. "It will require little dredging and be able to cater for the big ships of the future." Meanwhile, in May the government announced it would proceed with privatising the Port of Melbourne.

Hastings box terminal development makes headway

Thu Oct 17 20:18:14 CEST 2013 arnekiel

The Port of Hastings Development Authority (PoHDA) is looking to secure specialist consultants for four work packages: port planning and design, environmental and social, hydrodynamics and legal services. “The feasibility phase will inform a final development decision from the Victorian Government on the development of an expanded port at Hastings,” said Mike Lean, chief executive, PoHDA. “We anticipate the project will take about three years to progress through feasibility before entering procurement and delivery, on track for an operational container port in the mid 2020,” he added. Work packages for commercial and economics advisory and risk management will shortly progress directly to requests for tender. Over the next four years, the authority will look at port design options and will carry out preliminary studies and fieldwork, impact assessments and detailed scientific studies to build a business case. The project’s progression is backed by AUS$110m (US$105.67m) funding from the Victorian government. - See more at: http://www.portstrategy.com/news101/world/australasia/hastings-makes-headway#sthash.yVwRojlP.dpuf

Port of Hastings to quadruple cargo capacity with massive government funding

Wed Nov 14 08:39:24 CET 2012 arnekiel

Port of Hastings in Australia's Victoria is expected to receive sizeable government funding to nearly quadruple cargo-handling capacity. According to the port's development agency the government has committed to the project, reports Hoist magazine from Australia. It said media reports put development costs at an estimated A$12 billion (US$12.2 billion), including the construction of transportation links. The Port of Hastings Development Agency said the government of Victoria is 'committed' to expanding the port's capabilities to accommodate handling of the 8 million TEU throughput that the port is anticipated to handle by 2035.
