Stuck bridge means no ships can pass through channel
Part of the International Railroad Bridge, which crosses over the Niagara River between Buffalo and Fort Erie, Canada, is stuck in the closed position. Mechanics are at the scene now, but for the time being, no commercial or recreational water vehicles can travel past the bridge in the Black Rock Channel, where part of it swings open and shut, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. Due to the malfunction, the bridge is not opening to let ships pass through. No commercial traffic is waiting to cross under the bridge at this time, and Coast Guard officials were not aware of any recreational traffic either. The Coast Guard has issued an advisory to all craft. The bridge was built in 1873, and has been known to malfunction from time to time.
