Crew of 11 rescued from burning freighter
A fire broke out in the engine room o the "Xin Hua Sheng" on Jan 31, 2019, around 6.45 a.m. and spread to superstructure. The crew requested an evacuation. The ship anchored near the coast of East China's Jiangsu Province, about 100 miles off the East coast of the Dafeng district. The Maritime Search and Rescue Center in Lianyungang sent a helicopter, and the crew was hoisted aboard after it arrived on scene at 9:45 a.m. within 17 minutes. They were transported back to Shanghai. An SAR tug headed to the scene for further investigations and a salvage attempt of the smouldering vessel.
