Fire on the Rhine
The "Vision", 3060 ts (EU-No.: 02324592), caught fire on the Rhine off Millingen, Netherlands. The vessel was en route to Frankfurt, where it had sailed on Aug 10, 2017, with a deck cargo of empty containers, when a fire broke out in the engine room at 5 a.m. The five crew members were able to escape the heavy smoke and flames. The blaze was finally extinguished at 8.30 a.m. Damage to the engine room was extensive, leaving the vessel disabled. Authorities arrived on scene to monitor the situation. No reports of injuries, but authorities suggested nearby residents to keep windows and doors closed due to the stench from the smoke released. The ship left Voerde on Aug 13 and proceeded to Papendrecht. Dutch inland freighter disabled after fire
Inland cargo vessel VISION suffered fire in engine room early in the morning Aug 10 on Rhine river at Millingen, Netherlands, while en route to Frankfurt, Germany. Fire was extinguished some three hours later, but vessel was immobilized and brought to anchor, reportedly not hampering passing vessels. Vessel resumed moving at around 1330 UTC Aug 10, at some 5 knots speed, probably she’s pushed or towed by inland cargo vessel ROXY
