Medevac off San Diego

Wed Jul 03 10:40:11 CEST 2024 Timsen

The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a 60-year-old male passenger from the 'Top Gun 80' approximately 115 miles west of San Diego on July 2, 2024. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center received notification from the vessek at approximately 9:47 a.m., reporting that a passenger was having a seizure and was drifting in and out of consciousness. Sector San Diego assumed SAR mission coordinator responsibilities, initiated the medevac protocol, and consulted with the duty flight surgeon. It was determined that a medical evacuation to a higher level of care was necessary. A San Diego Fire STAR Medic was requested to accompany the Coast Guard rescue swimmer. The Air Station San Diego Jayhawk aircrew launched at approximately 10:45 a.m. local with an estimated arrival time of 43 minutes. Upon arrival, the crew successfully hoisted the patient and transferred him to awaiting emergency medical services at Sector San Diego. Report with video: https://www.news.uscg.mil/Press-Releases/Article/3826003/coast-guard-medically-evacuates-a-60-year-old-male-from-a-fishing-vessel-locate/ The patient was in stable condition and is being taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for further evaluation.
