Russian crew starving in Zhangjiang

Mon May 27 16:56:35 CEST 2013 Timsen

The Russian crew of the "Prok" is living in misery at the Zhangjiang seaport. Eight seamen have been paid no wages for several months. According to the chairman of the primary trade union organization of the Seafarers’ Union of Russia in Vladivostok, Peter Osichansky, on May 27, 2013, the debt amounted to 48000 dollars. There was no electric power or water aboard the ship. China has impounded the vessel urging that it be paid for port-staying and the services rendered. The crew also had to suffer food and water shortages and live in insanitary conditions with their wages delayed for several months. It was not until April that 10 Russians and one Ukrainian crewmember were able to return home.
