Fire damaged engine room

Tue Jun 10 21:28:23 CEST 2014 Timsen

The "Thor Horizon" caught fire on June 9, 2014, at Pori in Maentyluoto. The Satakunta Rescue Department received the alarm traffic at 11.24 p.m. The firewas caused by a fractured fuel feed pipeline to a generator and could be confined to the engine room, which was, however, badly damaged. The failsafe safety equipment including automatic fuel shutoff and engine room fire fighting systems functioned perfectly. The crew of 23 which was coming from Thailand gathered on deck and remained uninjured. The fire rescue and the ship's own fire-fighting systems were able to douse the fire within 15 minutes. One-third of the engine room was damaged. The ship had loaded a cargo of timber which was bound for Alexandria in Valkossa before proceeding to Pori. Of on the whole 47,000 cubic meters 38,000 cubic meters were taken on board there. The ship remained moored in Maentyluoto where it was supposed to load more lumber. It was not ruled out that now the whole cargo would have to be shifted onto another ship.
