Damaged tanker under repair in Tuzla
By Aug 18 the "Syn Zania" has entered a shipyard at Tuzla and was berthed at the repair pier. The damage location required further marking which was carried out by class surveyors under the supervision of owner's representative. Steel cutting and replacement has been commenced by shore based technical teams.

After the technical and legal part of investigation into the explosion of the "Syn Zania" has been completed by the Harbour Master and the Public Prosecutor, the tug "Yumurtalik" was appointed for towing the vessel to the Tuzla shipyard area. The towage operation has commenced in the morning of July 23. The vessel arrived and dropped anchor at Tuzla in the afternoon of July 25. In the fire and explosion on board the ship at Aliaga on July 1, one crew member had died, 15 were rescued. The ship was cooled until July 2.
Explosion and fire on board, during cargo operations at Petkim
Liquefied Petroleum Gas Carrier Syn Zania (3836 gt, built 2008), experienced an explosion and fire on board, during cargo operations at the at Petkim petroleum terminal, Aliaga, Turkey, at 2100 hrs, local time, today. According to reports, initial fire extinguishing operation has commenced by crew. Subsequently, Petkim terminal emergency fire brigade team immediately attended the incident scene from the shore side and firefighting tugs attended from the sea side. At the time of the incident, there were 16 crew members on board and one of them died. The remaining 15 crew members were safely evacuated. The fire was brought under control at 2330 hrs, local time. Additionally, the incident location has been declared as a restricted zone until completion of firefighting operations and subsequent investigations. The cause of the incident is, however unknown at this time. A technical damage survey will be carried out.
