Stril Herkules mobilized after platform fire in the Northsea
The "Stril Herkules" and two SAR helicopters went on standby after a fire broke out on the Statfjord A platform in the North Sea on Oct 16, 2016. Smoke and a fire coming from the utility shaft of the platform at 8:20 a.m. The fire started in a loading pump in the utility shaft and was restricted to one area that is separated by fire barriers. The automatic deluge system was triggered when the smoke was detected. Statoil's emergency response organisations at Sandsli and in Stavanger were mobilised.No injuries were reported and the fire was extinguished by 11:00 a.m. The area was now being monitored by the fireguard. There were 67 people on board when the incident occurred. By 10 a.m., 20 workers were been moved by helicopter to the Statfjord B platform. Production was shut down and it was unclear how long it would take to restart production.
