Burnt out wreck too gutted for investigation

Thu Mar 26 22:42:17 CET 2015 Timsen

The "Scombrus Junior" which was gutted and sunk by fire in Haugesund on Feb 22 is in the process of being broken up after the Police gave up their efforts to find the cause of the blaze at the Inner Quay. The damage was so great that neither the police or the insurance company have found it safe to go on board to examine it. The strength of the hull was so reduced that the hull gave way when being placed onto shore by a sheerleg, and the wheelhouse slid into the hull. The insurance company Havtrygdtook over ownership of the vessel from the Tollevik AS after the fire. The Tollevik AS was to get paid out the insurance sum. Fire in Haugesund gutted fishing vessel

Sun Feb 22 13:12:31 CET 2015 Timsen

On Feb 22, 2015, at 3:59 a.m. the "Scombrus Junior" was on fire in the inner harbor of Haugesund. There was no Crew on board. Attempts to get the fire under control lasted into the morning hours. The fire department, supported by the lifeboat "Bergen Kreds", finally sank the ship in order to extinguish the flames. It came to rest with a list to port at the quay. The area was cordoned off, and people in the surrounding houses were asked to keep the windows closed. It was considered to evacuate hotels and other ships nearby because toxic gas and smoke emerged from the ship. The fire was doused at 11 a.m. Oil booms were laid out by the Port Authority to prevent possible diesel and oil spills. The ship was completely destroyed.
