Vehicles carrier towed to Surabaya

The "Satya Kencana IX" has been towed to Surabaya for further investigation on Aug 18. The National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) has completed collecting initial information regarding the fire that occurred on board the vessel.

Ferry remained anchored afer fire

The "Satya Kencana IX" remained anchored about 54 miles southwest of Tanjung Selatan on Aug 12. National Transportation Safety investigators have yet to inspect the vessel. It was still unknown if the investigators will board the vessel in its current location or if it will be towed closer to shore.

Ferry caught fire

The "Satya Kencaa IX" with 250 passengers on board caught fire on Aug 4, 2018, at 5.35 a.m. about 55 miles southwest of southernmost Kalimantan Cape Tanjung Selatan, while en route from Surabaya to Banjarmasin, Kalimantan. An operation to evacuate the passengers from the vessel was started by the "Niki Sae", "Kumala" and "Bina Marine 97". The "Altair" of Disnav Banjarmasin and the "KNP 363" of the Banjarmasin KSOP assisted in the rescue operation. The crew managed to drop anchor in pos. 04° 40.72' S 113° 56.79' E.
