Fire on former lifeboat
In the night of Dec 7, 2016, a fire broke out in the engine room of the "Ringasund" off Hordvikneset north of Bergen. Both the NSSR-lifeboat "Kristian Gerhard Jebsen" and the fire boat "Sjøbrand" participated in the rescue operation north of the Nordhordlands bridge after the JRCC was alerted via Rogaland Radio at 6.35 p.m. There were three people on board of the "Ringasund". The crew managed to extinguish the fire themselves with the automatic fire extinguishing system at 7.15 p.m., however, there were large amounts of smoke. Two merchant vessels came first after they had heard the distress call on the radio. Smoke divers made sure the fire was completely extinguished. At 7.30 p.m. the "K.G. Jebsen" took the casualty alongside and towed it to Bergen. The crew remained unharmed in the incident. The ship berthed at Skjøndal for repairs to the engine room and main engine which have been damaged.
