Fire on supply ship off Mellum

Mon Apr 30 18:19:25 CEST 2018 Timsen

In the afternoon of Apr 30, 2018, a fire broke out in the port side engine room of the "Offshore Taxi 1" in the outer Weser. The lifeboats "Hermann Marwede" of the DGzRS station Heligoland, the "Hermann Rudolf Meyer" of the station Bremerhaven and the "Bernhard Gruben" from Hooksiel attended the ship after the crew of three had alerted the traffic control in Cuxhaven at 1.30 p.m. Upon their arrival the crew had already sealed the affected egngine room and by this managed to put out the fire on the catamaran ship which was five miles north of Mellum island at tat time. An SAR helicopter of the German Navy deployed a fire fighting team from Bremerhaven to the scene. With the undamaged starboard engine the ship was kept in position until the helicopter had dropped off the five ship fire experts. After it was proved the fire was out, the supply ship headed for Cuxhaven, escorted by the "Hermann Marwede". On scene were SW winds of five Beaufort strength with 38 km/h speed. The ship reached the fishing port of Cuxhaven at 6.40 p.m. German reports with photos: https://www.seenotretter.de/aktuelles/seenotfaelle/ansicht/news/feuer-im-maschinenraum-drei-seenotrettungskreuzer-der-dgzrs-im-einsatz/ https://www.butenunbinnen.de/nachrichten/kurz-notiert/feuer-auf-schiff-ausgebrochen100.html https://www.cn-online.de/stadt-land/news/einsatz-auf-cuxhavener-offshore-taxi-one.html
