Explosion and fire on tender boat
On May 15, 2018, at 2:03 p.m.the KNRM IJmuiden was alerted by the Dutch Coast Guard after the "Netty" had suffered an explosion on board off Ijmuiden. One of the two engine rooms was on fire. The crew of the tender boat flooded the starboard side engine compartment with CO2 and carefully closed the hatch to the compartment to prevent oxygen supply. With the remaining engine it sailed with eight knots towards IJmuiden. The lifeboat "Koos van Messel" was on the spot half an hour after the alarm and checked the crew of seven which had suffered no injuries nor intoxications. The Coast Guard then decided to stand down the SAR helicopter, a Coast Guard boat and the lifeboat of the KNRM station Wijk aan Zee which had been alerted too. The "Koos van Messel" escorted the tender boat to the IJmuiden fishing port where the fire brigade was ready to check the engine room after mooring. At 4:35 the "Koos van Messel" was back at the lifeboat station. The tender boat left the port again on May 17 at 1.20 p.m. and headed to Den Oever for repairs where it arrived at 5.40 p.m. On May 24 at 7.30 a.m. it sailed again and resumed the tender service Ijmuiden-Amsterdam.
