Superyacht sank, still ablaze
The 'Navis One', which had caught fire in the evening of Oct 9 around half a mile Southeast of the Ano Koufonisi island in the vicinity of pos. 36 55 36 N, 025 36 25 E, burnt down in the following hours and finally capsized, still ablaze, on Oct 10 at daylight. In the morning hours, a fire-fighting tug had been deployed to the area, to continue fire fighting, but the yacht had already sunk. Subsequently, a floating barrier was placed around the sinking site by the tug with a member of the Koufonisi Coast Guard on board. A preliminary investigation was being carried out by the Naxos Port Authority. 22 occupants of the vessel had beem safely transported by a tug, with the use of the yacht's tender, to the port of Koufonisi, all in good health after the fire. 22 people rescued from blazing yacht
A fire broke out on the ‘Navis One’ in the Ammos Bay near the port of Koufonisi on Oct 9, 2023, shortly after setting off from Koufonisia to Mykonos. The yacht, with 22 people on board, was en route to Mykonos when the incident occurred. Upon receiving distress signals, the Greek Coast Guard launched an SAR operation. The quick response of the rescue team ensured the safe transfer of all people on board, comprising 10 tourists from the USA and 12 crew members, according to other reports 10 crew members and 12 holidaymakers from Singapore and Malaysia, from the yacht to the nearest port. The cause of the fire remained unknown, triggering an investigation into the incident. The fire has left the vessel severely damaged, and it was expected to sink.
