After being stranded at Mumbai's Juhu beach for nearly three weeks, Singapore-flagged cargo ship, MV Wisdom, finally anchored at Alang Ship Breaking yard for dismantling, Gujarat Maritime Board officials said today. The MV Wisdom had docked at plot 8 of the Alang Ship Breaking yard yesterday, they said. The vessel was successfully tugged away from Juhu beach on July 2 and resumed its journey to Alang.

Even without MV Wisdom, Juhu beach still attracts visitors. According to the fire brigade, nearly 15,000 people thronged the beach on Sunday, even though salvers towed the vessel away on Saturday. Four persons were rescued from Juhu beach on Sunday afternoon, despite repeated warnings of a high tide of 4.6 metres, by the civic body's disaster control cell

MV Wisdom refloated safely

Sat Jul 02 17:54:23 CEST 2011 arnekiel

The Ship MV Wisdom, which ran aground on Juhu beach on11th June, has been re-floated safely. The ship was re-floated today at 1245 pm by SMIT International; a Singapore based Salvage Company with the help of two powerful tugs. The ship broke its towing rope, while it was being tugged to the Alang Ship breaking Yard in Gujarat and started drifting and ran aground on Juhu beach. A press release issued by the Directorate General of shipping said it was successfully pulled out by the ship SMIT LUMBA, which is equipped with adequate salvage equipment and manned by qualified and experienced salvage personnel. It is now being taken to Mumbai outer anchorage and thereafter the vessel will be eventually towed to Alang-Bhavnagar Gujarat for scrapping at the earliest.
