Ship to be repaired after fire

Ater the fire under the deck of the "Monica" at the Nordlaks Fishfarm in Djupvik at Blokken in Vesterålen, the extent of damage will be surveyed at a shipyard. The three crew members on board had managed to keep the flames from spreading due to the quick effort so that major damage to the vessel could be avoided. After the quick firefight, the crew was sent to the emergency room for a routine check as a precaution. Operator Nordlaks stated that the crew had made a formidable and completely unique as well as extraordinary effort with the firefighting. They limited the damage on board by shutting off all air supply, so the fire was suffocated in its start-up, whereby the extent of the fire was extremely limited. The fire was so much under control that the smoke divers could go directly on board when they arrived on scene as well as ambulance, police and Norwegian Coast Guard, participating in the large scale operation. The disabled vessel was later towed to the quay at Sandnes in Hadsel where the Norwegian police started their investigations. After completing the investigation of the cause of the fire, the ship will be brought to the shipyard.

Fire in Djupvik

In the morning of Nov 27, 2021, a fire broke out aboard the "Monica" at the Nordlaks Fishfarm in Djupvik at Blokken in Vesterålen. Due to the immediate intervention of the crew it could be extinguished. At 10.30 a.m. the ship was taken in tow to Stokmarknes by another fishing vessel with no smoke emerging any longer.
