Ferry saved castaways from the water
The two crew members of a 40-ft-boat that started burning in the Lysefjord, jumped into the sea and was rescued by the 'Møkstadfjord' on April 9, 2022, around 8 p.m. At the Krokeide ferry quay in Fana, several emergency services turned up to receive the castaways. After the HRS had received a message from the police at 8.11 p.m. it sent out an emergency message two minutes later, and the 'Møkstrafjord' responded together with the ambulance boat 'Austevolljenta' and the Red Cross. The cause of the fire is currently unknown. Water cooling system of Siemens batteries was leaking
The water cooling system of the batteries aboard the "Møkstrafjord" began to leak so that the ship was withdrawn from the Krokeide - Hufthamar route and sidelined in Austevoll on Feb 8, 2019, where several modules which had been manufactured at Siemens newly opened battery factory in Trondheim will be replaced. It was Siemens' own service personnel who discovered the error during testings a few weeks ago. The cause of the leaks was quickly identified and caused by faults on some components of the cooling system. There was no safety risk for personnel or equipment on board. The ferry was berthed at the quay without passengers on board, when moisture was detected in the battery compartment. All decommissioning procedures were initiated immediately. There was no danger for either crew or passengers. Siemens' battery modules are water-cooled. The security systems in the battery modules worked as they should. The cooling system's task in the modules was to control the temperature in the battery cells so that it does not become too high. The leakage from the water cooling system on some of the battery modules meant that several of them were now being replaced on the two Austevoll ferries, besides the "Møkstrafjord" also the "Horgefjord".
