Tanker abandoned after fire

On Oct 21, 2024, at 10.30 a.m. a fire broke out in the engine room of the 'Med Atlantic', with 22 crew members aboard, in the East Johor Strait in Singaporean watersl. The MPA deployed assistance to the vessel and alerted the authorities. An MPA patrol vessel, three firefighting and rescue vessels from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), two vessels from the Police Coast Guard, and two tugs arrived at the scene. All crw members were rescued without injury. A warning has been posted to vessels in the area, and MPA was also broadcasting the message to vessels passing nearby. The authoritieswere closely monitoring the situation. Details regarding the cause of the fire were still unclear.
