Pavit salvors apply to get reimbursed

Wed Nov 14 12:39:45 CET 2012 Timsen

The salvors of the "Pavit", Great Offshore’s Salvage Services, have sent a notice to the office of the Directorate General of Shipping claiming reimbursement of salvage fee of around one million dollar. Unlike earlier reminders, for the first time, they have asked for reimbursement from the government irrespective of the outcome of the third auction of the "Pavit". The vessel was re-tendered in June 2012 after first round bids failed to match the reserve price of Rs 4.75 crore. In October 2011, after attempts to get a favourable response from the Dubai-based owners Pavit Shipping and Prime Tankers LLC failed, the government was informed by the insurers that they had staked claim of $1.4 million. The Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) was going for re-tender to reach out to a larger audience, as the vessel is still classified as “sea-worthy”. MMB has been facing problems with the auction itself. Also, the cost of salvage and towing has exceeded the actual worth of the ship. With at least six agencies, including Shipping Corporation of India and Coast Guard, waiting to have their expenses cleared, paying the dues of just one agency looks difficult.

Tanker Pavit's route still remains untraced

Mon Sep 10 09:45:07 CEST 2012 arnekiel

Mumbai: Shipping authorities in India have still not traced the route that merchant vessel M V Pavit followed to reach Mumbai following unfavourable weather conditions, reports PTI. The grounded oil tanker drifted from Oman coast to the city's Juhu-Versova beach in July last year. According to officials, they failed in tracing the route because of the weather conditions between June-August and said the route will always remain a "mystery". "We wanted to reconstruct the route with the help of satellite imagery, but at that time monsoon was prevalent and the entire area was covered with clouds. We are therefore not successful in tracing the route," said an official from the Directorate General of Shipping. Also, no one even spotted this vessel drifting or else we would have alerted concerned authorities, the official said. http://www.moneylife.in/article/merchant-tanker-pavits-route-still-remains-untraced/28363.html

Also second auction of MT Pavit failed

Fri Jul 27 08:59:39 CEST 2012 arnekiel

The controversial 999-tonne tanker MT Pavit failed to receive any bids in its second and possibly final auction this month (July 27, 2012). The vessel is beached at Dabhol Port since last September with the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) continuing to incur maintenance and sundry expenses every month. Officials at Directorate General of Shipping are now considering if they should approach the International Maritime Organisation to order berthing of other vessels of the Dubai-based owners till the due is cleared.
