100 evacuated from paddle wheeler after fire
In the foremidday of July 23, 2015 a fire broke out on the "Lady of the Lake" in Clear Lake. The cruise and entertainment boat had just docked around 11 a.m. Residents and employees from the Oakwood Care Center were on board and had to be evacuated to safety. About 100 people, including 27 from a care center, were evacuated safety to shore. Exhaust from a generator in the engine room had ignited a wood column. Smoke and flames coming from the back of the paddle wheeler. The fire was put out quickly by co-owner Jon Berhow. He was the first one to notice smoke building up and used a fire extinguisher while the rest of the crew evacuated passengers. Damages were estimated around $7,500. The "Lady of the Lake" was expected to be opened back up in the next few days.
