Purse seiner burns in Marshall Islands lagoon
The "Koo's 102" caught fire in the Majuro lagoon on Sep 8, 2019. There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire was not immediately known. All seven crew members safely evacuated the vessel after the fire broke out in the bridge and foreship area and spread around, billowing smoke across the lagoon. Small boats from a fishing tournament rescued the crew members with some jumping into the water. The vessel had just dropped off its large fishing nets at a repair yard in Majuro Atoll inside the lagoon. As it pulled away a fire erupted which was still on 24 hours later. It has gone way down and it was just smouldering. The burnt out hull of the vessel was still floating inside the lagoon while investigators tried to find out what sparked the blaze.
