Fire still under investigation
The local authorities have summoned witnesses as they continue to investigate the fire on the 'Nusa Penida' a the port of Dukuh Raya in Teluk Waru on July 16. 12 witnesses have been interviewed so far, including the vessel's shipping company, maintenance crew, crew members, etc. They are still waiting for the results from the forensic lab which took samples from items such as pieces of iron, cables, welding tools, etc.
Investigators found body inside ferry
After the fire aboard the KMP 'Nusa Penida' was successfully extinguished on July 16 at around 8.30 p.m. WITA, officers started an investigation inside the vessel and found the burnt body of a person. The West Lombok police have immediately investigated the incident and installed a police line, as well as carried out preliminary examinations of witnesses. The cause of the incident is not known. As per reports, the temporary suspicion of fire was due to being hit by sparks that came from the welding process during docking for maintenance at the port of Dukuh Raya in Teluk Waru. The West Lombok police along with the Lobar police, which had sent a water canon car from the Lobar police Sat Samapta, had extinguished the fire with three units of the West Lombok regency Fire department.
Ferry on fire
A fire broke out on board of the KMP 'Nusa Penida', which was docked at Dukuh Raya Port, western Lombok, in the afternoon of July 16, 2022. All people who were on board fled onto the pier via rhe lowered ramp with no injures reported. There were no passengers on board, as the ferry was saundergoing repairs at Dukuh Raya. Several hours after fire started, it was still on.
