Ferry suffered engine room leak

Tue Jul 23 19:22:58 CEST 2024 Timsen

The KMP 'Bukit Samudera Perkasa (BSP) I' suffered a leak in the engine room while docked at Pier 2 of Merak Harbor, Cilegon City, on July 22, 2024, at 05.30 WIB while disembarking passengers and unloading vehicles. The ferry tilted to the port side. The ship was banned from sailing, and repairs were carried out at the berth.

Fire was caused by short circuit

Sat Feb 09 16:24:18 CET 2019 Timsen

The fire aboard the "BSP-I" was caused by a short circuit from a light cable in the engine room. The crew immediately extinguished the fire and it didn't spread to other areas. Local authorities have begun interrogating the captain and its crew. The vessel was also to be inspected on Feb 11.

Fire off Merak

Thu Feb 07 20:52:15 CET 2019 Timsen

On Feb 7, 2019, at 6.45 p.m. a fire broke out aboard the "BSP 1" when the ship was enroute from Bakauheni to Merak in the Sunda Strait between Sumatra and Java. The ferry was three miles off Merak Besar island with 196 passengers and 26 crew members on board. The fire started in the engine room and caused a blackout when cables of the generators burnt through. The passengers were told to don lifejackets, while nearby ferries and tugs were directed to assist the vessel. All passengers were evacuated under assistance of the patrol boat KNP "Jembio", the KMP "Batu Mandi", the KMP "Royal Nusantara" and the KMP "Titian Murni". The "BSP 1" managed to reach pier 3 in the port of Merak with assistance of the two tugs "Tirtayasa 1" and "Tirtayasa 3" at 8.30 p.m. where the fire was finally extinguished.
