Passenger ship ablaze in Sorong
On March 7, 2021, the ''Fajar Baru 8' caught fire while at the People's Harbor, Sorong City, enroute from Waisai, Raja Ampat. The initial fire followed an explosion and dense smoke development. Within short time the whole vessel was engulfed in flames. The 110 passengers and 16 crew members managed to flee from board in time. The blazing wreck was pulled away from the berth and burnt out off the port. The Fire Brigade, the Indonesian Navy and a tug attended.. The wreckage was towed to a state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina's dockyard in Dokarim Island.
