Trawler abandoned after fire
The "Kapitan Chernov" caught fire on the night of May 18, 2017, in the Okhotsk Sea, 15 miles off Ozernovskiy at the southwest Kamchatka Peninsula. The superstructure was alight, and of the 27 crew members, 22 were evacuated to the nearby trawler "Real" (IMO: 8938435), five more, including the master, remained on board trying to fight the fire. The salvage tug "Suvorovets" (IMO: 7808293) was deployed to assist the vessel, ETA May 19. After the remaining crew failed to tackle the fire, they also left the vessel and boarded the "Limansky", leaving the ship at anchor seven miles off the coast, 15 miles from the village of Ozernovskiy, abandoned and still burning.
