Swimmer assisted grounded port ferry

Thu Jul 11 22:56:37 CEST 2019 Timsen

On July 4, 2019, at 3.30 p.m. the "Schilksee" suffered an electrical failure on the Kiel Fjord off Möltenort enroute to Laboe. The ship was disabled and got stuck on sandy bottom. The tug "Kitzeberg" of the SFK was called to refloat the vessel. As the water was too shallow to approach the casualty and the towing wire which was attached to a rescue ring did not float to the ship, a swimmer came to help and pulled it towards the "Schilksee" where it was connected to the stern. The ship was then successfully pulled to deeper water and back to the SFK quay in Kiel for investigations.
