Fire off Golubitskaya

Mon Oct 26 11:28:52 CET 2020 Timsen

The 'Grigoriy Lintzov' reported a fire on board in the evening of Oct 18, 2020. The crew issued a distress call and asked for help in extinguishing the fire and evacuating the crew. Vessels carrying emergency rescue equipment in the area of the port of Kavkaz were immediately dispatched to the vessel which was located north of Golubitskaya in the southern Sea of Azov, in vicinity 45 24 00 N, 037 15 00 E. After the Russian research vessel 'Impuls' and the Russian tug 'Merkuriy' arrived on the scene, an emergency team rescued all seven crew members and provided assistance to them. None of them was injured. The 'Merkuriy' approached the casualty and started extinguishing the fire on the upper deck. Then an emergency team boarded the 'Grigory Lintzov' to extinguish hidden fires below deck. At the same time, the 'Impuls' was monitoring the water for the presence of oil from the damaged tug, having prepared oil-gathering equipment. No fuel spill was found. The 'Merkuriy' took the damaged vessel in tow to the port of Temryuk once the fire was finally put out. The crew of the tug was also transported to Temryuk, where it was handed over to the shipowner.
