Smoke but no fire off Genoa

On May 13, 2018, thick smoke was remarked escaping from the "Grande Riviere", which had arrived off the petrol port of Genoa from Aveiro. Black fume was billowing from the tanker, and witnesses called the emergency services. It turnedout that during anchoring, a considerable amount of black smoke was generated from the exhaust funnel of the auxiliary boiler. The situation was immediately notified to the engine room and the smoke was eliminated by around 8.20 p.m. by adjusting the fuel oil air ratio to the auxiliary boiler. It was later confirmed by the classification society (NK) surveyor that there had been no fire on board and the vessel berthed as scheduled on May 14 at 7 a.m., continuing to discharge its cargo normally. The management thanked the local authorities and fire brigade for being alert and ready to respond should there have been a fire on board.
