Fire out, tug gutted
A large fire has been extinguished on board the "George King" near Vicksburg, Miss. The fire broke out in the engine room of the uninspected towing vessel near mile marker 390 on the lower Mississippi River on Jan 25 morning. The nine crew on board were able to safely disembark, and no injuries or pollution have been reported. The Coast Guard was working with local agencies to continue monitoring the vessel. Pusher tug ablaze on Mississippi
The "George King" went ablaze on the lower Mississippi after a fire broke out in the vessel’s engine room in the morning of Jan 25, 2018. The U.S. Coast Guard was responding to the fire aboard the uninspected towing vessel at mile marker 390 near Vicksburg, Miss. Other local agencies were also involved in emergency response efforts. The nine crewmembers awas able to safely disembark to the dry cargo barges the vessel was pushing. No injuries have been reported. The "George King" had 65,000 gallons of diesel on board. A waterway restriction has been put in place from mile marker 395 to mile marker 380. The queue was nine vessels upbound and three vessels downbound.
