Trawler towed to Saint-Guénolé
The SNSM-lifeboat "Men Meur" from Guilvinec was called by the SNSM in Saint-Guénolé, whose boat was currently undergoing maintenance, to tow the "Antaeus" in the afternoon of Jan 6, 2019, south of the Scilly Islands. The trawler had suffered a gearbox failure in the afternoon of Jan 4. At 2 p.m. the lifeboat left the port of Guilvinec and picked up the "Anteaus" in Audierne Bay. At 4 p.m. she was safely berthed in the port of Saint-Guénolé. French report with photo: https://www.letelegramme.fr/finistere/le-guilvinec/snsm-intervention-a-saint-guenole-07-01-2019-12177250.php
Anteaus will have to be repaired up to two months
The "Antaeus" will have to remain in repair between 1,5 and two months at the shipyard Glehen in Douarnenez. The collision with the "Georgios Alexios" was the subject of an investigation carried out jointly by the English Coastguard and the prosecutor of the Republic of Brest. The "Antaeus" was hit on Nov 12 at 11 p.m., while fishing in the area of the St. George Canal between Ireland and Wales. She was hit at the port side stern, and an appendage and several metal bars of the rear porch were twisted and the trawler's rear gantry damaged. But the worst thing was that the cargo ship got entangled the trawler's nets, which were in the water at the time of the collision. The ship began to list to starboard, and while the first net came off pretty quickly, the second first did not let go. No crew member was actually on deck of the freighter at the time of the incident.
