Smouldering fire off Rügen
On June 8, 2015, a smouldering fire broke out aboard the "Einheit" near Rügen island. AT 8.40 p.m. the f/v "Bergen" from Ueckermünde reported the fire to the MRCC Bremen after the crew of two of the "Einheit" had remarked it in the foreship off Ruden island. Both fishing vessels had jointly sailed from Freest towards Bornholm. The crew of the "Einheit" meanwhile tackled the fire with a CO2-extinguisher and sealed off the foreship. The lifeboat "Eugen" of the DGzRS-station Greifswalder and the "Heinz Orth" of the station Freest were dispatched to the scene and the fire rescue Freest was alerted. Six firemen went aboard the "Heinz Orth". The "Bergen" meanwhile had taken the "Einheit" alongside as the engine had been shut off for securtiy reasons and the ship was adrift in the sea. Off the fishing port of Freest the fire men were transferred aboard the "Einheit". After the "Eugen" was also on scene, both lifeboats escorted the convoy into Freest where the local fire rescue and the water police Wolgast coordiniated the further proceedings and had the fire soon under control.
