Fire on oil rig off Norway
A fire broke out on the "Deepsea Atlantic" which was working for Statoil at the Johan Sverdrup field around 140 kilometers west of Stavanger on Jan 4, 2017, just before 6 a.m. Flames were observed flames in the service loop in the derrick of the rig. The crew were mustered according to the instructions at such events. After the fire was first extinguished, it flared up again. After about an hour the situation was under control. The rig not drilled when the incident took place. The case was reported to the Petroleumstylsnet and will be followed up by Statoil and Odfjell Drilling. The field is under development and production was started by the semi submersible rig, which is being operated by Odfjell Drilling, in November 2016.
