Tanker saved crew of burning tuna boat
Early on May 19, 2018, the Mexican tuna boat "Adriana" caught fire 150 nautical miles south of the Chacahua Bay, off the coast of Oaxaca. Its 24 crew members were rescued by the "Centenario" which was sailing in the area. The tanker which was heading to Salina Cruz from San Carlos, Baja California, had received a distress call at 3.30 a.m. At 4.02 a.m. the crew observed flares and found the burning vessel. At 4.30 a.m. the rescue of the crew started. Besides the fishermen, also two dogs were rescued. They arrived at the port of Salina Cruz around 8 a.m. On May 19 at 04:20 a.m. patrol boat "Mitla" of the Semar sailed from Bahías de Huatulco towards the blazing "Adriana". The cause of the fire was unknown.
