Sat May 11 13:00:23 CEST 2024 Timsen

Authorities in Hawaii were investigating claims that the 'Celebrity Edge' had sailed too close to shore when passing Hawaii’s protected Na Pali coast, en route from Honolulu to Vancouver. It allegedly came within 1,000 feet of Kauai’s north shore last week. Local laws prohibit ships with more than 50 passengers from sailing within 3,000 feet of the island’s coast. Hawaii’s Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) was aware of these incidents and an investigation was continuing. The DLNR has also consulted with the US Coast Guard and Department of was aware on the matter. The 'Celebrity Edge' has since left Hawaii and was heading for Vancouver, where it is due to arrive on May 11, 2024.

Two medevacs near the Dominican Republic

Wed Feb 08 17:40:25 CET 2023 Timsen

US Coast Guard aircrews conducted a medevac from the 'Celebrity Edge' on Feb 5, 2023, and a second medevac from the 'Symphony of the Seas' in the Atlantic Ocean near the Dominican Republic on Feb 6. On FEb 5, the crew of a Coast Guard Air Station MH-60T Jayhawk hoisted a 79-year-old male, U.S. citizen, from the 'Celebrity Edge' with an abdominal medical emergency that required a higher level of care ashore. Coast Guard watch standers in Sector San Juan had been notified in the afternoon, requesting Coast Guard assistance to transport a passenger to a local hospital. Watch standers directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter that rendezvoused with the cruise ship, approximately 140 nautical miles north northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. The aircrew deployed the aircraft rescue swimmer aboard the cruise ship to conduct a litter hoist and bring the patient and cruise ship nurse safely aboard the aircraft. On Feb 6, a Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen MH-60T Jayhawk aircrew hoisted an 18-year-old male, U.S. citizen, from the 'Symphony of the Seas' with an abdominal medical emergency that required a higher level of care ashore. Coast Guard watch standers in Sector San Juan received communication from the cruise ship in the evening of Feb 5, requesting Coast Guard assistance to transport a passenger to a local hospital. Watch standers directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter that rendezvoused with the cruise ship, approximately 150 nautical miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.
