Search for man lost over board suspended

The US Coast Guard suspended its search on July 20, 2018, for a man reported overboard from the "Cape Greig" in Ugashik Bay, Alaska. A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak HC-130 Hercules aircraft crew, a Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and nine good Samaritan vessels searched a total of 13-square miles along the Ugashik Bay shoreline and up the river in efforts to locate the man. On July 19 at 4:27 p.m., Coast Guard Communications Detachment Kodiak personnel received a report of a man overboard from the fishing vessel "Cape Greig". Coast Guard 17th District command center watchstanders directed the COMMDET personnel to begin an urgent marine information broadcast and directed the launch of an Air Station Kodiak Jayhawk aircrew to conduct the search. A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak HC-130 Hercules aircraft was diverted to the scene to search for the man. Weather on scene was 8-mph winds, 12-miles visibility and calm seas with a strong incoming tide.

Medevac off Kodiak

A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew medevaced a crewman from the "Cape Greig" 154 miles east of Kodiak on Sep 5, 2017. Advertisement Coast Guard District 17 Command Center watchstanders in Juneau received notification from Discovery Health Partners stating the 50-year-old crewman was experiencing symptoms of appendicitis. Watchstanders briefed the duty flight surgeon who recommended a medevac. The Jayhawk crew safely hoisted the ill crewman and transferred him to awaiting emergency medical personnel in Kodiak. Weather on scene at the time of the hoist was 17-mph winds with eight-foot seas.

Medevac in Unimak Pass

A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew deployed on the Coast Guard Cutter "Midgett" medevaced a 47-year-old man from the "Cape Greig" after suffering possible seizures in Unimak Pass, 80 miles east of Dutch Harbor, Alaska, on June 12, 2017. Watchstanders at the 17th Coast Guard District command center received a medevac request from the "Cape Greig" reporting the man was found unconscious and was experiencing possible seizures. Watchstanders consulted the duty flight surgeon, requested the launch of the Dolphin crew and diverted the Cape Greig toward Dutch Harbor. The Dolphin crew hoisted the man and transported him to awaiting EMS personnel in Dutch Harbor. EMS transferred him to the Iliuliuk Family and Health Services Clinic to await a Life Med aircraft crew for transport. Weather on scene was reported as 3-mph winds.
