Crew of six rescued in ship fire - trawler lost in storm
The "Astrid Sofie - VA-50-LS" , 430 gt, caught fire off Røvær in North-Rogaland on Nov 28, 2018, at 4.56 p.m. with a crew of six on board. After issuing a Mayday call they deployed a life raft due to the rapidly spreading fire, which has broken out in a technical room, but they had trouble getting it ready. Two other ships which were on site within 20 minutes after the distress call managed to take the fishermen off. At 7.30 p.m. they were dropped off in Haugesund all together. Three of the men received medical attention in Haugeland hospital for suspected smoke inhalation. The MRCC deployed a Sea King-SAR-helicopter to the scene which arrived at 5.30 p.m. The blazing trawler was drifting northwards away from the shore in the evening hours. The Norwegian Coastguard sent the "Sortland" to the scene in order to monitor the "Astrid Sofie". The trawler went down at 11.56 p.m. despite attempts of the "Sortland" to extinguish the blaze. The work was demanding in full storm on scene and had to be abandoned. There were no reports of significant wreckage in the area after the sinking in pos. 59‘38.8 N 0.04‘ 55.1 E.
