Cruise ship assisted troubled yacht with migrants
On Oct 2, 2023, at around noon the 'Aidablu' was called by the Italian authorities to assist a sailing boat in distress. A grossly overloaded migrant boat with around 40 people, among them women and minors, on board approached the cruise ship from the port side. Life jackets were dropped off on board, and the migrants were supplied with beverages and given something to eat. The crew also secured the boat until a patrol boat of the Italian Coast Guard arrived and picked up the refugees. The 'Aida Blu' continued the cruise at around 2:30 p.m. to Valletta, where it arrived on Oct 3. Medevac in Souda
The 'AIDAblu' returned to Crete due to a medical emergency on a voyage in the eastern Mediterranean, which started in Corfu last Sundayon Sep 19, 2022. After a day at sea and a visit to Santorini on Sep 20, a visit to Souda on the largest Greek island of Crete was scheduled for Sep 21. At around 5 p.m. LT the 'AIDAblu' left the port of Souda and set course for Kusadasi. After about an hour's sailing time, Captain Peter Schade informed the passengers that they would temporarily return to the port of Souda due to a medical emergency. The person in need of help should be disembarked on site after re-mooring.The arrival at Kusadasi is scheduled for Sep 22 at 10:00 a.m. It was not yet known what effects the incident will have on the timetable.
Medevac in Piraeus
1,5 hours after the 'AIDAblu' had left the port of Piraeus towards Rhodes on June 22, 2021, at 4 p.m., the passengers were informed by the master Peter Schade that the ship had to return to the port due to a medical emergency which required the disembarkation of the patient. After he was dropped off at 6.45 p.m. for further care in a shore based hospital, the ship resumed the voyage with a delay of three hours and an ETA at Rhodes as of June 23.
