Fire caused significant damage
The "Abigail Grace" suffered a fire in the superstructure in the morning of Jan 6, 2016, around 5 a.m. The vessel was docked at the Harbour Grace Ocean Enterprises wharf on the Avalon Peninsula. When the Harbour Grace fire teams were alerted, the ship was full alight. The efforts of the Harbour Grace Volunteer Fire Department which was on scene with 20 men and some help from the nearby Carbonear Fire Department helped contain the damage to the shelter deck which includes the wheelhouse. After two hours the fire was under control. Most of the damage was to the upper deck and wheelhouse areas. The seven to eight people who crew the vessel will not be out of work until repairs have been completed in spring. The fire did not seem to be suspicious in nature, but the investigation has been turned over to the RCMP.
