197 people suffering from norovirus infection
183 passengers out of a total of 2,538 aboard the 'Queen Mary 2' reported being ill, ten days after the ship had departed from Southampton, UK, on March 8, 2025, for a voyage across the Atlantic to the Grenadines and back. The outbreak of gastrointestinal infections was reported on March 18. Additionally, 14 out of the 1,232 crew members also fell ill. The predominant symptoms were vomiting and diarrhea; the cause of which was attributed to the norovirus. The 'Queen Mary 2' is currently en route to New York, and scheduled to return to Southampton on April 6.
Medevac from Queen Mary 2 to Queen Elizabeth hospital
A patient was airlifted to hospital after a medical incident onboard the 'Queen Mary 2' in the Firth of Forth on Sep 1 at around 9 p.m. An HM Coastguard helicopter from Prestwick was circling above the cruise ship south of Kinghorn to conduct the medical evacuation and transported the casualty to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
Fire on cruise ship quickly tackled
On APril 4, 2024, at 6 a.m. a fire broke out on the 'Queen Mary 2', en route from Colombo to Port Louis on the Indian Ocean. Passengers were confined to their cabins, but could still smell smoke. The crew dealt with the blaze quickly. The ship berthed in Port Louis on April 5 at 4 a.m. UTC and sailed again at 4.30 p.m., headed to Durban with an ETA as of April 9.
