Broken fuel pipe caused fire
The fire aboard the ""Jettie Martha" on Nov 15 near the production platform "Ameland Westgat" has been caused by a broken fuel pipe in the engine room. This was found out during investigations at the quay in Lauwersoog the same day. The KNRM boats "Anna Margaretha" from Ameland, the "Maria Hofker" from Ameland, the "Koning Willem 1" from Schiermonnikoog, the "Anna Jacoba Visser" from Lauwersoog and the "Frans Hogewind" from Terschelling had assisted the crew of two which had managed to shut off the engine room. After the engine conked out, the salvage ship "Vigilant" was first on Szene to pull the ship out of the 500 meter safety Zone of the platform. Soon after the "Maria Hofker" arrived with a Team of the fire rescue on board which controlled the engine room in which the fire meanwhile was out due to a lack of oxygene. The "Anna Margaretha" took the fire rescue team back to Ameland while the "Vigilant" took the trawler in tow to Lauwersoog.
