Fire in engine room off Ameland
On Sep 5, 2013, a fire broke out in the engine room of the "Anna Elizabeth" - YE 42" north of Amelang near Nes. The crew of five meanwhile had sealed all air inlets of the engine room and anchored. The crew then sought refuage on the bow of the ship. The Dutch Coastguard raised alarm, and the KNRM-boats "Maria Hofker" of the station Nes Ameland, "Anna Margaretha" of Ballumer Bight Ameland and "Frans Hogewind" from Terschelling were dispatched. The "Maria Hofker" was first on the scene and took off four crew members of the vessel. One crew member of the lifeboat boarded the "Anna Elizabeth" to support its master. Returning from the shore, the "Maria Hofker" transported five firefighters to carry out an inspection on board the burining ship. Meanwhile also the "Anna Margaretha", Frans Hogewind" as well as the salvage tugs "Hurricane" and "Vigiland" also had reached the ship and awaited the outcome of the inspection. After the fire found out that the fire was doused, the four evacuated crew members were brought back to their ship and it was decided that the "Hurricane" would take the casualty in tow to Harlingen. The members of the fire rescue were brought back to Ameland by the "Anna Margaretha". The cause of the fire was not yet known.
