Esther C hijacked off Cameroon - three crew members taken hostage
In the evening of Feb 6, 2013, the "Esther C" was timewise captured by armed pirates in the Gulf of Guinea between Douala and Malaba, whilst coming from Abidjan. Three crew members, including two Russians and a Romanian, were taken hostage. The pirates also stole the sailors' personal belongings before leaving with the three sailors. The nine remaining Crew members on board sailed the ship away from the place of the attack, which was in international waters off the border of Nigeria and Cameroon. The ship after being back under command of its captain has resumed its voyage, and the remaining crew members are safe and unharmed. The Russian embassy in Cameroon said on Friday it was trying to identify the abducted Russian nationals. Britain is also working to release the hostages, and the Russian and British authorities are in talks with Cameroon’s law enforcement officials and port authorities.
