Bulk carrier approached by suspicious boats
On June 30, 2024, 12 suspicious small boats surrounded the 'Summer Lady' in the Red Sea, about 13 nautical miles from Al Mukha, Yemen. The small craft, including some fast boats and kayak-small boats that were operated unmanned, approached the bul carrier and were 1.5 nautical miles away from the ship. They remained in the vicinity of the vessel for approximately one hour before departing again. The ship continued its voyage from Salalah to Suez with an ETA as of July 4. Later the U.S. Central Command forces destroyed three uncrewed surface vessels (USV) of the Houthi terrorists in the area. It was unclear whether these USV’s were among the 12 boats that had been involved in the incident with the 'Summer Lady'.
Medevac off Kalamata
In the night of April 1, 2020, the Kalamata Harbor Authority was informed that the 'Summer Lady', while enroute from Rostock to Nemrut Bay, was heading to the port of Kalamata to disembark a 51-year-old crew member who needed immediate help. The ship sailed to a mooring off the port concerned, where the patient was taken over by the 'Agios Nikalaos I' in the morning of April 2 and transferred to the port from where an ambulance took him to the Messinia General Hospital for further medical treatment.
Inspection found violations of MARPOL regulations
On Sep 18, 2019, officials of the marine police Stade inspected the "Summer Lady" in Buetzfleth. Among other things, the bulk carrier was checked for compliance with MARPOL regulations. During the review of the oil journal, no plausible operations for fuel treatment and handling of oil and combustion residues could be determined over a six-month period. Many record-keeping procedures were not documented at all. The master and the chief engineer who is responsible for the correct, safe and efficient operation of the machinery, were found responsible here. Following a consultation with the responsible Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency, a security deposit totaling just under € 7,000 was ordered.
