Tue Jul 11 12:11:22 CEST 2023 Timsen

After being detained in New Zealand for three months due to numerous breakdowns that raised heightened safety concerns, the 'Shiling' finally departed Wellington on July 7 after authorities lifted detention orders. Maritime New Zealand announced that the troubled boxship that in recent months had become a source of concern due to recurring engine malfunctions was cleared to depart for Singapore after undergoing repairs and trials designed to ensure it would not break down yet again. The ship was headed to Singapore with an ETA as of July 23.

Tug preparing to tow container ship back to Wellington

Wed May 17 12:09:22 CEST 2023 Timsen

The 'Skandi Emerald' temporarily left the side of the 'Shiling' in Tasman Bay to swap crew in preparation to tow the container ship back to port. Maritime New Zealand, overseeing the operation, said on May 17 that once a towing plan was confirmed, the 'Skandi Emerald' would tow the Shiling through the Cook Strait to Wellington Harbour. The 'Skandi Emerald' also had towed the vessel from where it initially lost power 22 nautical miles north-northwest of Farewell Spit to its current anchorage point in the middle of the bay.
