Bow thruster failure off Piraeus

The 'Berlin Bridge' suffered a failure of its bow thrusters in the Saronic Gulf off Piraeus on July 10, 2020, at 4.25 p.m. The vessel reached Piraeus without assistance and was banned from sailing by the port authorities until repairs were carried out and a class certification submitted by the attending classification society. On July 11 at 1 p.m. the ship resumed its voyage to Genoa with an ETA as of July 13. The ship dropped anchor in pos. 44° 16.85' N 008° 45.25' E on Genoa anchorage at 9 p.m.

Seaspan Corporation announced today that it accepted delivery of the Berlin Bridge, a 4500 TEU containership, from Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd, portnews reports. The new containership is Seaspan's fifth delivery in 2011 and expands the Company's operating fleet to 60 vessels, Stockhouse reports. The Berlin Bridge is on charter to Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd. ("K-Line") of Japan under a twelve-year, fixed-rate time charter with options to K-Line to extend the charter term up to an additional six years.
