Tug smuggling 2,5 tons cocaine raided off Portugal
The Judiciary Police seized 2.5 tons of cocaine valued at about 125 million Euros during an operation to combat drug trafficking on Jan 30, 2019, with the support of the Air Force and the Portuguese Navy. In addition to seizing the drugs from a Latin American country, the "Sea Scan 1" was also seized, and the crew of 11 was arrested. Some of the 11 detainees, most of them from Eastern European countries, already have criminal records for various crimes related to drug trafficking. The operation resulted from the exchange of information within the framework of MAOC-N (Maritime Analysis and Operation Center - Narcotics), a drug-trafficking agency based in Lisbon, with the participation of several European countries such as Portugal, Spain, France, UK, Ireland, Italy and the Netherlands.
