Finnish company has tp pay four million Danish crowns as compensation aftter bridge allision
The company Ronja Marine Ltd. which owns the "Ramona" has to pay more than four million Danish cowns as compensation to Rail Net Denmark. The ship had allided with the railway Bridge crossing the Limfjord on Mar 28, 2012, which coast Banedanmark 46,6 million crowns. International conventions restricted the company's responsibility to a maximum of eight million. Banedanmark has accepted the amount of four million Crowns. Lawyers had recommended to reach a settlement. Banedanmark believed that the settlement put some responsibility on the company. The "Ramona" had run into the railway bridge due to the strong current before the bridge opened. The bridge was so severely damaged that the entire link span had to be replaced. It took over a year before the new link span was finished and could be installed.
Bridge repair completed more than one year after hit by Ramona
In the evening of Apr 15, 2013, shortly before midnight a 350-ton counterweight was finally mounted on the railway bridge over the Limfjord by the sheerleg "Samson". The installation was delayed as some of the so-called shims which are used to centralize and extend the legs were too thick. A local blacksmith had to produce thinner plates in great haste. The trip of the "Samson" to the bridge therefore started only at 6.10. p.m. At 6.30 the bridge was open so that the "Samson" could sail to the installation site. At 7.30 p.m. the crane with the counterweight arrived at the bridge which had been damaged in an allision by the "Ramona" on Mar 28, 2012.
