Medevac off Galveston

Fri Sep 06 08:54:23 CEST 2019 Timsen

The US Coast Guard medevaced a crew member from the "Pacific Jewels" approximately 20 miles offshore of Galveston, Texas, on Sep 4, 2019. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received notification from the crew of the crude oil tanker that a member of the crew had suffered a back injury and was in need of medical assistance. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac. A Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew was launched to the scene. The Dolphin helicopter crew hoisted and transferred the crewmember to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Weather on scene was reported as 4-foot seas with 20 mph winds.
