Medevac off Port Elizabeth

Thu Aug 06 11:12:15 CEST 2015 Timsen

On July 29, 2015, at 9.50 p.m. the NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew launched the sea rescue craft "Eikos Rescuer IV" to rendezvous with the "Shasta" for the medevac of an injured sailor. At midday the NSRI Port Elizabeth were placed on alert by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following a request for medical assistance from the container ship reporting a 54 year old Filipino sailor on board was suffering a laceration to his head and an injured side body suffering blunt trauma sustained in a fall against a hatch. On arrival on-scene, two miles off-shore, the patient was found to be walking wounded and was hoisted off the ship in a harness and taken ashore aboard our sea rescue craft. The patient has been transported to hospital in a stable condition by EC Government Health EMS ambulance for further treatment.Report with photo: http://www.nsri.org.za/2015/07/patient-medivaced-off-ship/
